THE SERIESÂ
- Bethel won the first game this season 74-71 on January 8 in Mabee Arena. The loss ended KWU's three-game winning streak against the Threshers after they had won the two previous games. The Coyotes lead the series 23-14 since 2005.
- KWU has won the last six games against Southwestern, three last season. The Coyotes won 96-92 in Winfield, 96-93 in Mabee Arena and 76-71 in the semifinals of the KCAC tournament in March in Mabee Arena. This is the only regular season game between the two teams this year. KWU has a 21-20 series lead since 2006.
KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
- The Coyotes ended a four-game losing streak with an 87-74 victory over Tabor on Saturday in Hillsboro. Alex Littlejohn was unstoppable, finishing with 34 points on 10 of 14 shooting, 16 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Landon Wagler scored 13 and was the only other Coyote in double figures. KWU lost to York 60-57 last Wednesday at York – the seventh consecutive loss by three points or less.
- Littlejohn is averaging 19.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and is shooting 55 percent from the field. He has 14 double-doubles and has scored in double figures in 23 of KWU's 24 games. He had 21 points and 14 rebounds in the game against Bethel earlier this season. Evens Appolon had 21 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
- The Coyotes average 76.6 points and allow 73.0. They're shooting 46.3 percent overall, 32.8 percent from 3-point range and 69.2 percent from the free throw line.
BETHEL AT A GLANCE
- The Threshers have won five in a row and 10 of their last 11 games. They walloped Avila 97-73 Saturday and defeated Sterling 82-72 last Wednesday, both games in North Newton. The victories came after back-to-back road wins at Southwestern and Evangel.
- Five Threshers have double figure scoring averages led by junior guard Carmelo Yakubu (15.6) then Eli Wiseman (12.9), Cade Kittrell (11.2), Harper Jonas (11.0) and Nick Bonner (10.2). Yakubu also averages a team-best 7.0 rebounds; he had 24 points and six rebounds against KWU in the first game.
- Bethel averages 80.4 points, allows 72.4 and is shooting 47.6 percent from the field, 37.4 from the 3-point arc and 68.8 percent from the foul line. Opponents are shooting 43 percent from the field. Â
SOUTHWESTERN AT A GLANCE
- The Moundbuilders ended a three-game losing streak with an 86-69 victory over Bethany on Saturday in Winfield. They had previously lost at home to Bethel and on the road to York and Oklahoma Wesleyan.
- Junior guard Wyatt Bell is the top scorer (17.1) with sophomore guard Evan Barber (13.0) and senior guard Justin Demaria (12.8) next. Junior center Zach Hidalgo ranks third in rebounding in the NAIA at 12.9 and also averages 9.9 points.
- Rebounding is what Southwestern does best, better than anyone in the NAIA – a whopping 14.7 per game average over the opposition. The Moundbuilders average 79.7 points, their opponents 68.4. They shoot 44 percent from the field, 38 from 3-point range and 73 percent from the foul line.
