Kansas Wesleyan Men's Tennis had its home Kansas Conference opening match on Thursday at the Salina Tennis Alliance Center, but would fall to the Evangel University Valor 6-1.
The loss gives KWU a 1-1 record in the KCAC as the Coyotes head into a nine-day break before taking on Concordia and Avila on March 22 in Salina.
In doubles, Evangel got the point winning all three flights.
Adam Hanson and
Luke Craft lost to Angel Gomez and Gabriel Esmanhotto 7-6 on a 7-2 tiebreaker.
Raul Davalos-Gavino and
Paul Jittawait lost to Gabriel Leal and Diego Emilio Chavarria 7-5; and
Jacob Phelps and
Gavin Chavez lost to Vinicius Costa and Etienne Bouche 6-2.
In singles, The Coyotes got a win as
William McMurry beat Esmanhotto 1-6, 6-2, 7-6. Evangel would win the other five flights. Gomez beat Davalos-Gavino 6-1, 3-6, 6-4; Costa beat
Adam Hanson 6-0, 7-6; Leal beat Craft on a retirement; Tiago Galoppo beat
Jacob Phelps 6-2, 6-7, 10-8; and Bouche beat
Jack Hanson 6-4, 6-4.
Wesleyan's next action will be March 22 as KWU hosts Avila in a KCAC match and Concordia in a non-conference match.
