Kansas Wesleyan Men's Tennis hosted a pair of matches on Saturday, first against Concordia University in which the Coyotes lost 6-1, then bounced back to defeat the Avila Eagles 6-1 in a Kansas Conference match at Salina Tennis Alliance Center.
Against Concordia in doubles, the Bulldogs claimed all three flights. Hugo Fuentes and Nick Velders beat
Adam Hanson and
Luke Craft 7-5; Manuel Rodriguez and Grady Works beat
Raul Davalos-Gavino and
Jacob Phelps 7-6; and Santiago Abadia and Ben Chisholm beat
Paul Jittawait and
Gavin Chavez 6-1.
In singles, KWU got its only point of the match in the No. 4 flight as
Jacob Phelps beat Joseph Melzer 6-1, 7-6. In the other flights, Fuentes beat Davalos-Gavino 6-3, 6-4; Velders beat
Adam Hanson 7-5, 6-1; Chisholm beat Craft 6-0, 6-4; Works beat Jittawait 6-4, 6-1; and Abadia beat
Jack Hanson 6-0, 6-3.
Against Avila, the Coyotes got the 6-1 win over the Eagles.
KWU swept the doubles matches as only two of three were contested.
Adam Hanson and Craft beat Caige Bjornstad and Drue Coen 6-0; and
Austin Harden and
Zachary Daley beat Dominic Lunn and Robert Davies 6-0.
The Coyotes took four of the five contested singles flights. Davalos-Gavino beat Coen 6-0, 6-0; JIttawait beat Bjornstad 6-2, 6-2; Daley beat Lunn 6-0, 6-0; and
Andrew Wise beat Aidan Vandegrift 6-0, 6-0. Avila got its only point as Davies beat
Jacob Marshall 6-4, 6-4.
KWU is back in action on Monday, heading to McPherson to face the Bulldogs at 3 p.m. at Holman Family Tennis Center.
