NORTH NEWTON – Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer opened the Kansas Conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over the Bethel Threshers at Thresher Stadium.
The Coyotes were able to make two first half goals stand despite giving up early second half score to the Threshers.
Wesleyan's first goal came in the 18th minute by
Adriyanna Botello. A ball was sent into the box from the left side by
Emma Gervy after a throw-in. Bethel's keeper attempted to make a save on the play but the ball reportedly got away and to Botello who scored it top shelf.
The Coyotes got another goal just before the half as an initial shot by
Teigan Nielsen hit the post and bounced right to
Minaya Winchester who one-timed it in for the goal.
Bethel got its goal in the 54th minute by Malayasia Larque.
The Coyotes had several other chances to open up the lead but just missed on several tries.
KWU outshot Bethel 15-9 for the match.
Isabella Galvan had three saves for the Coyotes.
Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday, heading to Wichita to take on Friends University Falcons at 4:30 p.m. at Adair Austin Stadium.
