SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer made a pair of first half goals stand as the difference as the Coyotes defeated the Evangel Unviersity Valor 2-0 on Saturday at Coryell Field.
The Coyotes had several early chances and finally broke through in the 32
nd minute as
Abigail Jensen scored it off a double assister by
Grace Arteaga and
Abby Perez.
Wesleyan's second goal came just before the end of the first half in the 44
th minute as
Rylie Moreno-Rojas scored her first goal of the season off an assist by
Carstyn Anderson on a corner set piece sending the Coyotes into the half up 2-0.
Evangel put some shot tries together to start the second half but could not convert. The Coyotes looked to extend the lead in the 68
th minute but a shot by Moreno-Rojas off another set piece hit the crossbar and a follow shot would be saved.
Wesleyan made another push for a goal late but again could not convert.
Moreno-Rojas had six shots to lead the Coyotes to a 19-9 shot advantage in the match.
Isabella Galvan had another clean sheet for the Coyotes in goal with six saves.
The Coyotes get a week off to prepare for the University of Saint Mary next Saturday at 2 p.m. at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
