Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer came up unlucky on Wednesday as the Coyotes fell to the Mid-America Christian Evangels 2-1 in a match-up of two teams receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 released on Wednesday.
The match was delayed by nearly 90 minutes due to severe weather that rolled through the area, causing the earlier developmental match between the teams to be called at halftime.
MACU was on the board first in the 11
th minute as Stephanie Arrivillaga scored off an assist by Madison Chavez to give the Evangels the lead.
Just two minutes later, the Coyotes got the equalizer thanks to a little help from MACU.
Emily Martin sent a direct kick in the direction of goal. The ball was attempted to be cleared by a MACU defender, but instead was misplayed and bounced into the goal.
In the 57
th minute MACU took the lead on a goal by Brae Baker, outbattling a pair of Coyote defenders and breaking free for the shot and goal.
The Coyotes had a few good looks late but could not capitalize.
Emma Gervy's shot of a direct just missed high in the 82
nd minute, and in the final minute the Coyotes have a couple more good looks, but had shots by
Paige Proper and
Isabella Anderson blocked, and another try by Gervy saved in the last seconds.
MACU led in shots 14-7. Gervy and Proper led the Coyotes with two shots each.
Isabella Galvan had seven saves.
Wesleyan (1-1-1) will be back in action Saturday, heading to Seward, Nebraska to take on Concordia. CUNE is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 as well.
