THE SERIES
- KWU has won the last eight against McPherson including a 75-73 victory Nov. 19 in McPherson. The Coyotes have a 25-17 edge in the series since 2005.
- Wesleyan is 0-3 against Evangel since the Valor joined the KCAC before the start of the 2023-24 season. They played once last season with Evangel winning 77-74 in Springfield, Mo.
KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
- The Coyotes will look to end a three-game skid on Wednesday. Last week they lost at Bethel 72-68 on Wednesday and Avila 75-71 Saturday inside Mabee Arena. The Bethel game was tied with 1:34 left and KWU was within 73-71 with 10 seconds left against Avila.
- Caiden Punt has been superb of late. He scored 23 against Bethel and had 32 on 12 of 16 shooting against Avila. He's made 14 of his last 20 3-point attempts going 7 of 10 in both contests last week. Punt is averaging 19.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and shooting 41 percent from deep – 45 percent in conference play.
- Punt had 17 points and 10 rebounds in KWU's victory in McPherson. Wyatt Powell also scored 17, Gabe Phillips had 15 and Evens Appolon 10. The Coyotes led 43-35 at halftime but trailed 61-55 with 9½ minutes left before rallying down the stretch.
McPHERSON AT A GLANCE
- The Bulldogs have won two in a row and seven of nine. They outlasted York 108-104 on Wednesday and defeated Southwestern 79-64 on Saturday, both games in McPherson. They are 5-2 on the road this season.
- McPherson has four averaging in double figures – Korbin Gunn 18.3, Charles Snyder 10.5, Tarrance Austin 10.4 and Dash Johnson 103. Gunn has been even better against KCAC opponents averaging 21.3 points.
- McPherson averages 83 points and allows 75. The Bulldogs are shooting 46 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 74 percent at the free throw line. They average 10.4 turnovers and forced 15.5.
EVANGEL AT A GLANCE
- The Valor is 2-2 in its last four games after winning six in a row. Evangel defeated Bethany 80-60 on Saturday in Lindsborg following an 87-74 loss to Southwestern on Wednesday in Winfield.
- Like McPherson, Evangel averages 83 points and allows 75. The Valor has a plus-four rebounding advantage this season and commits 11 turnovers while forcing 14. Evangel is shooting 36 percent from long range and 47 percent overall.
- Garrett Davault is the leading scorer (16.5) followed by Jacob Lafferty (15.2) and Drew McMillin (10.9). Davault had 24 points including six 3-pointers and McMillin scored 19 against Bethany. The game was tied 31-31 at halftime before the Valor took control in the second half.
