KWU sweeps first KCAC Football Player of the Week honors

KANSAS — Chihiro Iwata and Shanya Murape, both of No. 6 Kansas Wesleyan University, have earned the KCAC Women's Flag Football Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Monday. The two student-athletes were selected for their performances from Feb. 16-22 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Athletic Solutions.

Iwata was incredible for the Coyotes in the season opener. In less than a half of work, she was 19 of 21 passing for 251 yards and 6 touchdowns. She added four rushes for 39 yards and a touchdown. She had a hand in seven of KWU's touchdowns as KWU opened the season with a 73-0 win over Hesston.

Murape was a part of a stout KWU defense that limited Hesston to 55 yards of total offense. Hesston averaged 1.3 yards per play in the game. There weren't a lot of defensive opportunities as Hesston had 27 incompletions and only four rushing attempts in the game. Hesston only crossed its own 20 yard line twice, once to its own 21, and then on the last drive of the game.
