Softball falls in first two games at Top Gun Midwest College Classic

SHAWNEE, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan Softball dropped its first two games of the Top Gun Midwest College Classic on Friday at Mid America Sports Complex. The Coyotes dropped the first game to Columbia (Mo.) 8-2 and the second to Doane (Neb.) 8-0.

The Coyotes had an early 1-0 lead on Columbia in the first inning as Brooklyn Lange doubled and then scored on a wild pitch, but in the bottom of the inning, Columbia scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead.

Neither team managed much offense until the sixth inning when Columbia scored four more runs to take an 8-1 lead.

In the seventh, the Coyotes got hits by Lange, Keira Hammen and Kendell Wilcox to push a run across but the rally came up short.

Hammen had three of KWU's 10 hits in the game, while Lange had two. Alli Mickelsen took the loss in the circle allowing four runs on four hits.

Against Doane, the Coyote bats struggled to get anything going as the Tigers won 8-0.

Doane got its first run in the second inning then added four more in the third.

The Tigers got two more across in the fifth and capped the scoring in the sixth.

The Coyotes were held to three hits in the game, two by Hammen. Bella Allen suffered the loss in the circle allowing five runs on seven hits in two and a third innings.

Wesleyan will be back in action on Saturday, taking on Central Methodist at 10 a.m. and Baker at 12:15.
