LAMONI, Iowa – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Volleyball got an outstanding effort from
Conor Williams, but the Coyotes came up just short dropping a straight set decision to the Graceland Yellowjackets 25-21, 25-16, 25-22 on Friday night at the Morden Center.
Williams was outstanding for the Coyotes with 17 kills while recording a .615 hitting efficiency for the match. The Coyotes hit .328 as a team.
Wesleyan was within a point in the opening set, but Graceland ran off five of the next six to take a 10-5 lead. The Coyotes got back within two on a kill by
Kaleb Cui and later used a Williams kill and a Graceland error to tie the set at 19-all. Graceland scored the next three points and the Coyotes couldn't recover, dropping the set.
KWU fell behind 9-3 in the second set and couldn't bounce back.
In the third set, the Coyotes led 4-3 but Graceland got three straight points to take a 6-4 lead and pushed the advantage out to 13-7. Trailing 14-8, the Coyotes put together at 5-0 run get back within a point at 14-13 but couldn't pull ahead. Graceland had a 24-19 lead and the Coyotes fought off three match points before GU was able to close things out.
In addition to Williams' outstanding night, Cui added six kills and
Anthony Mule had five.
Dallas Manaku had 29 assists.
Josh Kiely had eight digs.
The Coyotes are back in action on Tuesday heading to Ottawa to take on the Braves.
