David Leonard

David Leonard has been with the Coyotes since 2021 and is currently the Defensive Backs Coach

Coach Leonard has coaches on both sides of the ball for Kansas Wesleyan. In 2022, as the defensive coordinator Coach Leonard led a top 5 nationally ranked defense and finished as a top 5 defensive coordinator by Football Scoop. As the Defensive Backs Coach, Leonard finished the 2022 season with a top 2 secondary for passing yards allowed per game.

The past two season Coach Leonard has served as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. Helping 4 wide receivers to all-conference honors.

During his collegiate career, Leonard played football for the University of Wyoming from 2007 to 2011, competing as a wide receiver and punt returner. Leonard was selected as pre-season first team wide receiver in the Mountain West Conference by Sporting News going into his senior campaign where he was also team captain. Leonard led the Cowboys in both receptions and yards during his junior and senior season. The Wyoming Cowboys were champions of the New Mexico Bowl in 2009.

Leonard is married to April (Ptacek) from the Salina area and has three boys – Ty, Jax and Rush.
