Matt Myers was named the 21st head football coach in the history of the storied Kansas Wesleyan program on December 17, 2021. 

In 2023, Myers again led the Coyotes to an 8-3 overall record and had a 4-1 record in the Bissell Division of the KCAC, and was named Division Co-Champions with Ottawa. The Coyotes were the lone Bissell Division team to post an over .500 record and the lone divisional team to post an over .500 record against the Kessinger Division (4-2). KWU ranked fourth in the NAIA in scoring defense in 2023, allowing just 14.8 points per game. KWU ranked eighth in the KCAC in total yards allowing at 263.2. A total of 15 student-athletes were named All-KCAC led by first team selections Ricardo Garcia and Josh King-Bradley. The Coyotes also had six Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and six were named Academic All-KCAC. 


In 2022, Myers' first season leading the Coyotes, he led KWU to an 8-3 overall record and a 7-3 record in the KCAC. The Coyotes recorded three shutouts during the season, the most in a single season since 2002. Senior punter Miguel Millan was named as a NAIA All-American by the AFCA and the NAIA Coaches. The program had six student-athletes named as Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and 12 were named as KCAC Scholar-Athletes. KWU had 19 All-KCAC honorees including six first-team selections. 

Before being named head coach, Myers spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Coyotes in a myriad of roles, most recently serving as assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and strength and speed coach. 

Matt Myers is the first Kansas Wesleyan alum since Virgil Baer '36, led the program from 1946 to 1948. 

His connection with the Coyote football program extends more than a decade. Myers played for the Coyotes in four seasons – 2006 and 2013 through 2015, earning Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors in 2006 and second-team honors in 2015. He joined the coaching staff the following year and has served in numerous roles, including offensive coordinator in 2018 during KWU’s run to the NAIA Football Championship Series semifinals.

Kansas Wesleyan has posted a 61-11 overall record and a 44-7 record in the Kansas Conference during his time on the coaching staff. He has been a part of three KCAC Championship teams (2018, 2019, 2021), and helped the Coyotes to NAIA FCS appearances in 2015 as a player, and in 2018, 2019 and 2021 as a coach.

He was recently named as the 2021 NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.

Myers also coordinates the football program’s community service program.

Myers, a graduate of Southeast of Saline High School, earned his KWU degree in Sports Management in 2015. He is married to Sara, a graduate of Salina South High School and an optometrist at Salina Family Vision Care. They have two children, Madden and Henley.
