Kansas Wesleyan Men's Volleyball dropped a straight set match to No. 12 ranked Jamestown on Thursday afternoon inside Mabee Arena. The Jimmies won 25-23, 25-20, 25-19.
After falling behind 3-0 to start the match, the Coyotes came back and grabbed a 7-6 lead on a kill by
Justin Burras. Jamestown would come back and take an 11-9 lead in the set but the Coyotes stayed close until the Jimmies pushed out to a 17-14 lead in the set.
Wesleyan didn't give in though, tying the set at 17-all on a block by
Cooper Stepp and
Kahlib Lawrence. Jamestown regained a 21-18 lead and led 24-21, but the Coyotes scored two straight before Jamestown won the set 25-23.
The Coyotes jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the second set, and led 4-1 before Jamestown came back to tie it at 4-4. KWU would regain the lead and led by three at 10-7, before Jamestown rattled off five straight points to take a 12-10 lead. The teams traded the lead back and forth until the Jimmies made a run to take a 21-18 lead in the set and led 22-20 before scoring the final three points of the set to win 25-20.
The third set was tied 5-5 when Jamestown scored four straight points to take a 9-5 lead. The Jimmies pushed the lead out to 14-7 and led 19-13 when Wesleyan made a run with four straight points capped by a block by Lawrence and Stepp to get within two points at 19-17. It was 23-19 Jamestown before the Jimmies scored the final two points to claim the match.
Zayin Martinez had 13 kills for the Coyotes to lead the way as KWU hit .212 for the match. Lawrence added eight kills.
Angel Diaz had 26 assists. Lawrence added seven assisted blocks.
Jeremy Lapeze had 10 digs.
The Coyotes are back in action on Friday evening, hosting Dordt University at Mabee Arena at 7 p.m.
