DODGE CITY – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Golf finished third at the KCAC Match Play event on Monday and Tuesday at Mariah Hills.
The event opened on Monday with a qualifying round to determine seeds and brackets for the participating teams. Battling strong winds and chilly temperatures, the Coyotes earned the No. 2 seed and the Gold Bracket finishing with a score of 317 for the round.
KWU had two Top 5 finishers in the round as
Joey Wisocki carded a 1-over 72 to finish first overall with three birdies in the round and an eagle on Hole 1.
Kaden Mellott was fifth a 78,
Jackson Malone was 18th with an 83,
Hank Reeg was 22nd with an 84 and
Derek He was 38th with an 88.
In the semifinal round, the Coyotes faced Friends, falling to the Falcons 3-2. KWU picked up wins by
Hank Reeg 2&1 over Berhard Koster, and
Jackson Malone 1 UP over Laken Matthews. Friends would advance, however, with three wins as Trinton Nobles beat
Joey Wisocki 1 UP, Jenson Boyce beat
Derek He 4&2, and Gabriel Romani beat
Kaden Mellott 6&5.
It was a dominating performance by the Coyotes in the third place match as KWU blanked Southwestern College 5-0.
Derek He got a big 8&7 win over Christian Campbell and
Joey Wisocki got a 7&6 win over Sebastian Reed to set the tone for the Coyotes.
Hank Reeg won 4&2 over Jordan Clancy.
Jackson Malone beat Cameron Surles 1 UP, and
Kaden Blagg followed suit over Mitchell Lehman.
Match Play wraps up the fall season for the Coyotes. KWU will start the spring season in late February or early March.
