WICHITA, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan goalkeeper
Shae Wirt was named as the KCAC Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year headlining the Coyotes' selections to the All-KCAC Men's Soccer teams.
The KCAC Men's Soccer All-KCAC teams are selected by a vote of the men's soccer coaches.
The Coyotes had six picks to the All-KCAC teams. Wirt and
Noel Zimbeva were named to the first-team,
Alejandro Diaz Castro was a second-team pick, and
Emilio Rodriguez,
Seth Flores and
Brennen Lamont were named to the honorable-mention team.
In over 1785 minutes played, Wirt recorded eight shutouts on the season overall which led the KCAC and had five in KCAC play with also led the conference. He had 55 saves overall and allowed only 23 goals overall on the season. In conference play he allowed only 11 goals which tied for third among primary goalkeepers in the conference.
Zimbeva had 10 goals overall on the season, with seven coming in conference play. He also added three assists overall and two in conference play. His play from the midfield position was key in setting up scoring chances for the Coyotes and playing a key role on defense.
Diaz Castro helped the Coyote defense to allow the second lowest number of goals in the conference during conference play with 12. He played a key role for the Coyotes at the center back position in stopping building attacks by opponents and playing against some of the top goal scorers in the conference.
Rodriguez was another key component of the Coyote defense that held conference opponents to only 12 goals. He also played a factor offensively for the Coyotes scoring three goals and adding an assist on the season.
Flores was key for the Coyotes at the attacking position. He scored four goals in conference play, but also added five assists, many coming on set pieces on corners. He was a big part of Wesleyan's success this season.
Newcomer Lamont was also a key part of Wesleyan's offensive success this season. He scored five goals in conference play, and added two assists, helping the Coyotes secure the No. 3 seed in the KCAC tournament and reach the conference semifinals.
The Coyotes had another wildly successful season, going 13-4-3 overall and 9-2-2 in conference play. The Coyotes reached the KCAC Semifinals for a second straight season, falling to No. 21 ranked Ottawa.
