LEAVENWORTH – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Outdoor Track opened its season on Friday night with the distance runners running at the Spire Challenge Distance Carnival at Berkel Memorial Stadium.
 
Wyatt Johnson picked up a win in the 800m with a time of 1:54.87. Ty Davidson finished fifth with a time of 1:57.23, Triston Cottone finished seventh with a time of 1:58.29 and Nate Chavez finished 15^th with a time of 2:03.83.
 
Giovanni Rios finished second in the Steeplechase with a time of 9:54.35, and Ian Doss was fifth with a time of 10:22.45.
 
The 5000m run had a huge field with 76 runners starting the race and three heats needed to safely run the event. Damion Jackson finished fourth in the race with a time of 14:49.23, Austin Hess was 14^th with a time of 15:01.48, Jake Cruz was 15^th with a time of 15:05.18, Tytus Reed was 28^th with a time of 15:38.74, Austin Schaeffer was 37^th with a time of 15:49.12, Landon Steeger was 46^th with a time of 16:06.95, Brodie Bradshaw was 59^th with a time of 16:45.45 and Jack Horacek was 69^th with a time of 17:48.08.
 
Julian Avila was seventh in the 1500m with a time of 3:57.80, Evan Pearce was 29^th in 4:10.85, Brenden Ellis was 34^th in 4:12.63, Nicolas Martinez was 56^th with a time of 4:21.11, and Will Childers was 83^rd with a time of 4:51.82. The field for the 1500m was huge, 87 runners, taking six heats to complete.
 
The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday with the field events and sprints group heading to North Newton for the Bethel Invitational at Thresher Stadium.
