NEWTON, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Golf posted an 11
th place finish in the second tournament of the season at The Mid-South, hosted by Grand View University (Iowa) on Tuesday and Wednesday at Sand Creek Station.
The Coyotes finished with a three-round score of 910 for the tournament, dipping under 300 in the second round with a 299 after a 304 in the first round and a 307 in the third.
Hank Reeg paced the Coyote finishers tying for 15
th place with a score of 219. He was 1-under with a 71 in the first round, then finished with back-to-back 74s.
Joey Wisocki tied for 49
th with a 227,
Jackson Malone tied for 55
th with a 230,
Kaden Mellott tied for 73
rd with a 236 and
Logan Martin was 76
th with a 238.
In the team standings, the Coyotes were just three shots behind No. 6 ranked Wayland Baptist. The Coyotes edged out Southwestern and Bethany in the standings, the Moundbuilders by two shots and the Swedes by 25.
The field featured five teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25.
No. 5 ranked MidAmerica Nazarene won the tournament by two shots, shooting a 2-under 862, besting No. 10 ranked Friends who shot even par at 864. NCAA Division III Nebraska Wesleyan was third, USAO was fourth and Missouri Valley was fifth in the field of 18 teams.
Individually MNU's Josh Killingsworth won the tournament shooting a 7-under 209, besting teammate Hunter Schmidt by two shots.
The Coyotes are idle until September 15 and 16 when they play in the Crestview Fall Classic at Crestview Country Club in Wichita.
