Chihiro Iwata needed only the first half to turn in seven touchdowns in sixth-ranked Kansas Wesleyan's season-opening 73-0 win over Hesston (Kan.), earning the first-ever NAIA Women's Flag Football Offensive Player of the Week award, Feb. 24.
Iwata threw for 251 yards, completing 19-of-21 attempts with six touchdowns in Saturday's first half, including a 66-yard touchdown pass, 11 seconds into the 2026 season. The Coyotes scored on their next drive as well, as Iwata capped it with a five-yard run with 7:53 left in the quarter.
She ran four times for 39 yards, including the five-yard score, and KWU ultimately took a 48-0 lead at intermission.
Kansas Wesleyan is off until March 4, when the Coyotes begin KCAC play at Midland (Neb.).
