Kansas Wesleyan Flag Football's defense was again outstanding for the Coyotes on Saturday against the William Woods Owls at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
Â
The Coyotes held WWU to 88 yards of total offense and zero points as the Coyotes cruised to a 32-0 win over the Owls.
Â
It took a little bit for the Coyotes to get rolling, but once they did it was all purple, all day.
Â
After stopping Woods at its own 39 with 3:47 left in the first quarter, the Coyotes zipped down the field and scored with eight seconds left in the first as
Chihiro Iwata found
Ava Duerr for a 2-yard touchdown and the PAT was converted giving KWU a 7-0 lead.
Â
The Coyotes intercepted an Owl pass on the next drive, the pick by
Samari McKinney who returned it 14 yards to the WWU 26. Wesleyan's drive would stall and Woods would drive down the KWU-4, but a big sack by
Khylie Douglas on third down plus an intentional grounding call gave the ball back to the Coyotes.
Â
Wesleyan zipped down the field again capping the drive with a 20-yard pass from Iwata to
Aliyah Wood for a score and the PAT was good making it 14-0 with 1:11 left in the second.
Â
Starting the third with the ball, the Coyotes moved quickly downfield again as Iwata found
Jenise Washington for a 22-yard touchdown pass to make it 20-0 with 9:57 left in the quarter.
Â
Iwata hit Wood for another pass from three yards out to extend the lead.
Â
The Coyotes put one more score on the board as Iwata hit
Eva Decesare from six yards out with 3:47 left in the game.
Â
Iwata was 33 of 47 passing for 255 yards and five scores in the game. She also added 42 yards rushing on seven attempts. Wood hauled in 13 passes for 98 yards and two scores.
Jazmine Whitfield had six for 57 and Washington had four for 44 yards.
Â
Zo Lucas had seven flag pulls to lead the KWU defense.
Â
KWU is on the road for its next two at Bethel on Wednesday and at Cottey on Saturday.
