GODDARD, Kan. – The Kansas Wesleyan Developmental squad closed out a memorable day at the Genesis Sports Complex with an impressive tripleheader sweep of other conference foes, showcasing depth on the mound and an explosive offensive attack that gave the boys in purple the Developmental Championship.
This is the second time in three years that KWU has won the KCAC Developmental Tournament. KWU won the inaugural event in 2024.
Game 1 vs Bethany College 13-4 W
Kansas Wesleyan took control early in game one and never looked back, finishing off a 13–4 victory by mercy rule. After the Coyotes built up an early lead,
Chance Newton entered the game in relief in the third inning and delivered a steady performance on the mound.
Newton shut the door the rest of the way, pitching through the sixth inning to seal the victory and bring the game to an early conclusion.
The Coyotes' offense provided plenty of support, great at bats by the coyotes turned into earned runs through timely hits as Kansas Wesleyan batted around the horn.
Game 2 vs Tabor College 11-1 W
Game two Bluejays and Coyotes were in a tight battle 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, when Kansas Wesleyan rallied into a 10-run inning.
The biggest blow of the inning came off the bat of
Jaxxen Gillett, who launched a grand slam to ignite the rally and send the Coyotes' dugout into a frenzy. The inning proved decisive, as the mercy rule once again came into play.
On the mound,
Easton Nance was dominant, throwing a five-inning complete game while surrendering just one run. His command and efficiency kept Tabor's lineup in check and allowed the Coyotes to dictate the pace from start to finish.
Game 3 vs Friends University 11-9 W
Several Coyotes enjoyed standout performances at the plate throughout the day.
Tristyn Sporcic delivered one of the most impressive days offensively, recording just one out all day and reaching base 10 times, including two doubles and three triples.
Jacob Fallon also provided a key highlight, finishing 4-for-6 on the day and delivering a clutch home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of the championship finale, giving Kansas Wesleyan an 11–9 over the Friends Falcons to secure the developmental title.
Coach's Comments
"The bats were working for everyone today," said coach Maddock . "We struggled a little at the start with finding the strike zone, but we were able to flip the switch and put everything together. Game three was a fight, going punch for punch on the scoreboard, but the offense got it done. Glad the boys were able to end the year with a championship under their belts."
Kansas Wesleyan's performance highlighted the depth, resilience, and offensive firepower that carried the Coyotes to a strong finish. With contributions coming from every corner of the lineup, the Coyotes capped off the day with confidence and momentum moving forward.
