Coyotes claim KCAC Match Play title for third straight year

DODGE CITY – Abby Donovan (SO/Concordia, Kan.) was still on course as Kansas Wesleyan and Bethany's match in the finals of the KCAC Match Play event was tied 2-2.

Donovan's match was all square through 17 holes, after she'd rally from being down 1 on 15, winning the 16th to even the match. Donovan and Bethany's Elin Kennborn halved the 17th hole sending the match to the last all square.

Donovan hit a massive drive to set up an eagle putt, and the sophomore would win the hole and seal the win for the Coyotes 3-2 over Bethany.

It's the third straight year the Coyotes have won the KCAC Match Play event.

All five matches in the final were close, until late pushes by Aidan Richmond (JR/North Richland Hills, Texas) (4&3) and Corey Mein (SR/Liberal, Kan.) (5&4) gave two points to the Coyotes. Bethany's Ida Lihufvudh got a 4&2 win over Chaney Littell (FR/Winfield, Kan.) and Brooke Norman beat Hannah Hart (JR/Ventura, Calif.) 2&1 to even the match.

Wesleyan reached the finals after beating Tabor 4-1 in the quarterfinals, and conference newcomer Evangel 4-1 in the semifinal round.
