GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Kansas Wesleyan Women's Tennis officially opened the spring portion of its season on Thursday against the Concordia Bulldogs at the Grand Island Tennis Center. Concordia came away with a 5-2 win in the match.
The Coyotes won two of the singles flights as
Alivia Sherer got a win over Tessa Blough 7-5, 7-6 at No. 3; and at No. 6
Camrynn Bagwell got a win over Brooke Hosick 6-1, 3-8, 10-8.
Concordia got wins in the other four singles matches as Mariana Molano beat
Michaela Crowe in a tiebreaker set 6-3, 2-6, 10-5; Chakira Derman beat
Kristi Henderson 6-2, 6-0; Alana Lopez-Pagan beat
McKinnley Evans 6-1, 6-1; and Alexa Richert beat
Danielle Slack 6-2, 7-6.
In doubles, the Coyotes won one of the flights at No. 3 as Henderson and Slack beat Hosick and Lauren Gottberg 6-4. Concordia won the other two flights to capture the doubles point as Blough and Derman beat Evans and Sherer 6-3; and Molano and Lopez-Pagan beat Crowe and Bagwell 6-4.
The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday heading to Fremont, Neb., to take on the Midlan Warriors.
