McPHERSON – Kansas Wesleyan Baseball picked up a 16-7 win on Tuesday afternoon as the Coyotes beat Central Christian College at Tiger Stadium.
The Coyotes wasted no time in getting the offense geared up, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. After
Jacob Williamson led off with a walk, and two outs,
Cruz Oxford plated the first run of the game with a single. After a walk to
Tyler Favretto,
Reece Bishope reached on an error to load the bases and
Koby Roberts unloaded them with a double to make it 4-0.
Central got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Coyotes got another on the board in the top of the second. Williamson reached on a one-out single, then moved to third on a single by
Kendall Foster and scored on
Jarrett Gable's sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.
Williamson connected on a 2-run homer as part of a 3-run fourth inning for the Coyotes as Oxford drove in the third run of the frame with a single to score Gable.
Central Christian scored three in the bottom of the inning, but the Coyotes weren't done yet.
Eric Romero walked,
Alex Garcia was hit by a pitch and Foster drove in a run with a single to center. Gable then followed with a single to score Foster after he stole second base.
Garcia drove in KWU's lone run of the sixth inning after Romero walked, stole second and scored on Garcia's single to left.
The Coyotes got five runs in the top of the eighth. Romero led off with a walk, followed by a free pass to Garcia. Williamson was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Foster followed with a 2-run single. Gable then stepped to the plate and hit a 3-run homer to right to put the Coyotes up 16-4.
The Tigers got a 3-run homer in the bottom of the inning to keep the game going at 16-7.
Wesleyan pounded out 14 hits in the game with 11 coming from the top four spots in the lineup in Williamson, Foster, Gable and Oxford. Gable drove in five runs, and Foster and Roberts drove in three each.
Nathan Galusha was credited with the win, pitching three innings of relief allowing one run on two hits and striking out five. Starter
Pedro Ramirez went three innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
Cesar Rodriguez,
Danny Ramirez and
Zach Westbrook each tossed an inning.
The Coyotes are back in action this weekend in a weekend series with Southwestern at Dean Evans Stadium. Dates are still being worked out due to conflicts with high school baseball at The Dean.
