JOPLIN, Mo. –
Savanna Nickum shot a second round 79 on Tuesday leading a wild comeback for the Kansas Wesleyan Women's Golf team as the Coyotes stormed back for a win in the Evangel Fall Invitational at Twin Hills Country Club.
The Coyotes were in third place after Monday's first round as KWU carded a 345, and were four shots behind second place Friends and nine shots off the lead held by host Evangel.
Fueled by Nickum's 79 in the second round which was one of only two rounds in the 70s on Tuesday, and one of only four in the entire tournament, the Coyotes went 11 shots better on Tuesday and passed the rest of the field with a 334 on Tuesday.
Wesleyan finished with a 679 team score, three shots better than Evangel and Friends was three shots behind Evangel in the final team standings.
Nickum finished tied for third place in the tournament with a score of 166 for the two rounds.
Chaney Littell and
Ryann Warren were part of a group tied for sixth, each shooting a 168.
Magen Dow was 10th with a 177 and
Emily Stamper was 16th with a 186.
Evangel's Catherine Rhoads was the individual champion of the event with a 156, two shots better than Friends' Victoria Hofmann.
KWU will close out the fall portion of the season on October 20 and 21 at the KCAC Match Play event at Mariah Hills in Dodge City.
