NEWTON, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan Women's Golf claimed its third consecutive Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship title on Wednesday as the Coyotes bested the field at Sand Creek Station.
KWU bested the five-team field with a score of 989 for the tournament, winning by 10 shots over Evangel. Friends was third with a 1057, Bethany was fourth with an 1157 and Ottawa was fifth with a score of 1397.
The Coyotes placed four in the Top 10 at the Championships led by
Chaney Littell and
Ryann Warren tying for fifth with a score of 244.
Emily Stamper tied for seventh with a 251 and
Savanna Nickum tied for 10
th with a 255, then won a playoff hole as the conference guidelines stipulate a tie for 10
th must be broken for all-tournament team consideration.
Kelsey Essex was 15
th with a 262.
Evangel's Catherine Rhoads was the individual medalist with a 10-shot win over Victoria Hofmann from Friends. Rhoads carded a 228 and Hofmann a 238.
The victory qualifies the Coyotes for the 31
st Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan, running from May 19 through May 22.
