NEWTON, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan's
Jackson Malone claimed a 4-shot victory on the Central Plains Invitational, hosted by KWU, on Monday and Tuesday at Sand Creek Station.
Malone was one of just two players in the tournament field to go under par all three rounds, two on Monday and one on Tuesday that just escaped inclement weather. Malone posted rounds of 68 and 70 on Monday and closed out the tournament with a 68 on Tuesday to finish with a 206, 10-under par for the tournament.
The victory was Malone's third of his career as well, winning last fall's The Mid-South also held at Sand Creek and winning the 2022 Central Plains Invitational at Salina Country Club as a freshman.
Malone's 206 was four shots better than Gavin Dines of Baker. Thantup Saengvut of Oklahoma Panhandle State was third with a 212.
KWU's A team finished with the low round of the day on Tuesday in the third round posting a 284, 4-under par for the round. KWU opened with a 297 in the first round and a 296 in the second round finishing with a score of 877, earning third place.
Joey Wisocki tied for 12th with a 221,
Hunter Newell tied for 14th with a 222,
Hank Reeg was 28th with a 232, and
Kaden Mellott was 29th with a 234.
KWU also had a B team entered that finished in eighth place with a final score of 938.

Derek He, tying for 18th with a 225,
Logan Martin tied for 33rd with a 237,
Alex Gallegos was 36th with a 242,
Javen Clemons tied for 37th with a 244 and
Doak Neill was 39th with a 247.
Columbia (Mo.) was the team champion with a score of 866 for the tournament. Baker was second with a score of 873. Evangel was fourth behind the Coyotes with a 883, and Hesston College's A team was fifth with a score of 898.
The Coyotes have nearly a month off to prepare for the final tournament of the fall portion of the season at the KCAC Match Play Championships on October 20 and 21 at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City
