Kansas Wesleyan Women's Golf opened the spring portion of its season with a win at the Friends Women's Spring Invitational in Wichita, and followed with a fourth-place finish at the weather-shortened William Woods Invitational in Fulton, Missouri.
At the Friends Spring Invitational, the Coyotes led the four-team field with a score of 698, 16 shots better than Friends in the team standings and well ahead of Bethany. Coffeyville CC was the other full team in the event, but did not score as a team due to a player not playing in the second round.
Chaney Littell led the Coyote finishers with a second place finish with a score of 162, just one shot behind individual champion Victoria Hofmann of Friends.
Ryann Warren tied for fourth with a 169,
Savanna Nickum and
Emily Stamper tied for 10th with a 185 and
Kelsey Essex rounded out the team scorers with a 188, finishing 12th. Magen Dow tied for 13th with a score of 189 and
Abby Day tied for 22nd with a score of 221. Down and Day played as individuals in the tournament.
The William Woods tournament would be shortened to just one round due to weather conditions with the Coyotes finishing in fourth place out of the nine full teams at the event.
KWU finished with a score of 327, just two shots behind John A. Logan CC, and the Coyotes were just nine shots off the pace of tournament champion and host William Woods.
Littell again led the Coyote finishers with a score of 79, finishing sixth. Warren tied for 10th with a score of 81, Essex tied for 18th with a score of 83, Stamper tied for 22nd with a score of 84 and Nickum was 39th with a score of 93.
Pilar Ariaudo of William Woods was the individual champion shooting an even-par 72.
The Coyotes are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Bethany Invitational, held at Sand Creek Station in Newton.
