TEMPE, Ariz. – Kansas Wesleyan's
Raul Davalos-Gavino and the men's tennis team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional awards as announced by the ITA.
Davalos-Gavino was named as the ITA Central Region Senior Player of the Year and the team shared the Region Community Service Award with Concordia University.
Davalos-Gavino played at the No. 1 position for the Coyotes this season facing several regionally and nationally ranked opponents. He posted a 12-17 record overall and went 9-10 in duals at the No. 1 position. He went 7-5 in the KCAC this season.
This past summer, the team hosted a summer camp where they worked with over 30 kids located in the Salina and Wichita area providing excellent tennis experiences for a week. The team volunteered twice a week at Salina Tennis Alliance, emptying trash cans, clean bathrooms, and more. This was important to the community since Salina Tennis Alliance Center hosts many tennis events throughout the season. Multiple men's tennis players lead bible study once per week as their passion project.
The team is heavily involved on campus. Several players serve as resident assistants in the dorms as well as the incoming student body president is a member of the team. The team is involved in the community, playing a key role in providing affordable tennis lessons and classes to the underprivileged communities in Salina through Salina Tennis Alliance.
