Women’s Tennis earns several ITA regional honors

TEMPE, Ariz. – Kansas Wesleyan University Women's Tennis had three individuals earn regional awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, as well as the team sharing the regional Community Service Award.
 
Brian Vancuren was named as the ITA Central Region Coach of the Year. Vancuren led the Coyotes to an improved 9-9 record and a 7-5 record in the KCAC this season after finishing under .500 his first two seasons leading the team. He led the Coyotes to their first KCAC Tournament appearance since 2021.
 
Alex Sherer was named the Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Sherer was instrumental in helping the Coyotes to a 9-9 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the KCAC. He was a big part of the team's improvement this season and the team's first KCAC tournament appearance since the 2021 season.
 
Bellamy was named the Central Region Rookie of the Year. Facing some of the top competition in the region, playing in the No. 1 position, Bellamy had an 8-16 record overall and a 5-7 record in the KCAC this season in singles play. In doubles play she went 16-10 overall and had an impressive 10-2 record in KCAC play in doubles at the No. 2 position.
 
KWU also shared the ITA Central Region Community Service Award along with Concordia University. The team worked with Multi Cultural Student Union to host events on campus like coffee for students. They assisted in hosting a summer tennis camp, where over 30 kids were treated to a week of college-level training and participation. Members of the team volunteered at a church, doing such activities such as babysitting to help parents in the Salina area be able to have their kids safely watched while they were at a church event. A group of players also participated in the March for Life in Washington, D.C., as part of the club they founded on campus, KWU Students for Life.
