1996 marked the first year for Kansas Wesleyan's intercollegiate soccer team. Soccer was added as a sport for the 1996 season by Hall of Famer Jerry Jones as a way to bolster enrollment at KWU. Fellow KWU Hall of Famer Brian Berner was selected as the program's first coach after a successful run at Cloud County Community College in Concordia. The team made history winning the KCAC in its first season of existence with a 6-1 record in the conference and finished the season 14-3-1 overall. The Coyotes reached the KCAC Championship Match. Harold Calvo, Mike Dibbini and Mark Chaney were all named First Team All-KCAC. Brad Carne and Jim Ranieri were named Honorable Mention All-KCAC. Dibbini, Calvo and Chaney were all named Honorable Mention All-Americans by the NAIA.
