Dean lettered in football and basketball. During a four year period, Dean averaged in double figures and scored 1,033 points, which at the time was the third best total in KWU history. His teams at KWU won the KCAC in 1954 and finished second in 1951, third in 1953, and fourth in 1952. As a sophomore and as a senior, Dean was selected for All-KCAC honors. He was named to the KWU 1950’s Team of the Decade.
