Wayne Smith lettered all four years as a starter in basketball. He was first team All-KCAC in 1980 and 1981, and Wayne was selected the MVP for both seasons. He was the leading scorer in NAIA District 10 in 1981 and also led the district in free throw percentage in 1980 and 1981. Wayne was chosen NAIA All-district as a senior. He is the second all-time leading scorer in the history of basketball at Kansas Wesleyan University. There are no statistics available that rate defensive prowess; however, his coaches rated Wayne as the toughest, hardest working defender in the Kansas Conference every year he played. Wayne Smith is a member of the KWU 1990’s Basketball Team of the Decade.
