In 1942, as a junior, Keeler received All-KCAC honors at center.

Keeler was then called to serve his country,  entering the Navy during World War II, receiving training at Southeast Missouri State University where he was named team captain and again earned a third football letter. While undergoing flight training as a fighter pilot, Bill played a fourth season of football for the Pensacola Base Team.

Bill used his leadership skills during a Naval career that saw him as Commanding Officer of ships and fighter pilot of both propeller driven and jet planes, culminating with being assigned to the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Keeler continues to support Wesleyan, contributing to the KWU Alumni Association and is an active member in the Salina Chapter of the KWU Alumni Association. In 2009, he received the Alumni Achievement Award, which was established to recognize alumni for outstanding accomplishment in his/her chosen field.
