Jerry Jones Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Athletic Hall of Fame
Recruited by Coach Tracy Rietzke, Deena sparked the revival of women’s athletics at KWU. A year before she arrived, the Coyotes had lost 39 consecutive basketball games. In Deena’s first season, she set the single game record for assists (10) and led the team to 13 wins, tied for the most wins ever in women’s basketball at KWU. The next year KWU went 19-6. Deena was All-KCAC twice in basketball. Softball was even better, going 22-4, 19-8, and 28-6 with KCAC championships in 1985, 1986 and 1987. Three times Deena was selected to the All-KCAC team as an outfielder.
