At Beloit High School, George earned Honorable Mention All-State honors in basketball. At KWU he was a four year letterman in golf and basketball. As Athletic Director/Basketball Coach at Bethany College, he coached the Swedes to 216 wins, far ahead of the second place coach (128 wins). Under the guidance of Coach Stephens, his teams have been KCAC Champions four times and runner-up four times. The Swedes have made the District Play-Offs six times.
