During Danita’s senior season at KWU, the volleyball team went 28-11, the best record in school history; and they placed second in the KCAC, also the highest finish ever for volleyball. Being All-KCAC twice, she lettered four years in volleyball. Danita was the Most Inspirational Player and three times won the Hustle award in volleyball. She also lettered two years in track. Coach Tanzer assumed command of the KWU volleyball team as head coach amid a tumultuous early season. Her enthusiasm, energy, and demanding coaching style soon began to emerge and to mold the women into a solid unit. Her volleyball teams rose to the first division of the KCAC and qualified for the NAIA play-offs during her coaching at KWU from 1989 until 1994. She also served as assistant basketball and softball coach during the most successful period of softball history at KWU. During high school Coach Tanzer lettered in volleyball, track, and basketball. Her Gove High School team won the 1978 Kansas State Volleyball Championship with a 28-0 record.
