Jerry Jones Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Athletic Hall of Fame
The 1999-2000 men's basketball team won the KCAC for the first time for the Coyotes since 1985-86 under legendary coach Jerry Jones. The Coyotes set a then school record with 25 wins, going 25-9 on the season, winning the KCAC Regular Season title with a 12-4 record and the now-defunct National Small College Athletic Association National Championship. The Coyotes faced Bethany in the KCAC Tournament Championship at Muir Gym, hosting what could possibly be the largest crowd ever to take in a game at Muir Gym with close to 2000 people in the facility. However the swedes would come away with a one-point win 69-68 in that game. Wesleyan cruised through the NSCAA Tournament, blasting Presentation, coming back from an 18-point deficit against Philander Smith to win by 13 and taking the Championship by 11 over Rochester College (Mich.). Trent Ainsworth, the team's leading scorer, was named as a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, NSCAA All-American and MVP of the NSCAA Tournament as well as a First Team All-KCAC selection. Blake Turner was a NSCAA All-American and All-KCAC. Danny Thomas was an All-KCAC selection as well. Tyler Christensen and Bryan Gardere were Honorable Mention All-KCAC selections.
