Carroll earned four letters in basketball and received honorable mention All-KCAC as a sophomore, second team as a junior, and first team All-KCAC as a senior. In 1986 Carroll still ranked on the record charts standing third in career free throws (369), third and fourth in season free throws (131 & 129), tenth in junior scoring (347, 16.5), and eighth in senior scoring (409, 19.5). Carroll enjoyed outstanding success as a high school coach. His Salina High basketball team was state champion in 1971.
