A four year letterman in football, Don moved into the starting line-up as a sophomore and returned a pass interception 66 yards for a touchdown against McPherson. As a junior Don became KWU’s first passing T-formation quarterback setting single game passing records of three touchdowns his junior season and throwing for 248 yards as a senior. He placed in the KCAC meet as a hurdler earning four letters in track.
