To this day Warren remains the highest professional football draft pick in the history of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Warren was drafted by the National Football League’s Pittsburgh Steelers *. At KWU he was a four-year starter, three years All-KCAC, and named All-American defensive tackle. Warren captivated the Kansas Senior All-Stars in the Mo-Kan Bowl and was selected to play in the Chicago Tribune All-Star game.

* Smith was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 20th round, the 178th overall pick, of the 1947 draft.
