Ray lettered in football, basketball, and track. He was honorable mention All-KCAC three years. Ray was two times the KCAC 440 yard dash champion. He holds numerous records on the relay teams with Paul Smith, Max Chase, Todd Hampton, Gary Lapo, John Kline and Maynard Kline. Ray became an outstanding basketball official at the high school and college level throughout Kansas.
