Max started at end as a freshman in football and on the 1956 and 1957 KCAC football championship teams for Coach Gene Bissell. He ran on KCAC champion record-setting mile relay teams with Paul Smith, Todd Hampton, Gary Lapo, John Kline, Maynard Kline, and Ray Fox. Max was the KCAC individual KCAC 880 champion. He has spent his time since attending KWU as a rodeo competitor, winning many team roping events.
