Becoming the first ever four year letterman, Alan was a mainstay of the cross-country team. He lettered three years in track running on the college record two-mile relay team (7:55.2). Skip was widely known throughout the Midwest as a running meet director as well as a runner. His high school teams at Sacred Heart and Southeast of Saline were the best in the area and among the best in Kansas.
