As a freshman Junior earned Honorable Mention All-KCAC as a back for Coach Mackie’s 1936 KCAC championship team. For the next two years, Shaw was chosen first team All-KCAC until his senior year when he was All-KCAC second team. Junior was a member of the 1938 KCAC basketball co-champions chosen for the NAIB tournament in Kansas City. He was a two-time All-KCAC first team choice and led the conference in scoring.
